Travel is the movement of people between any two geographical areas of relative distance. In the modern era, the use of travel packages has taken a centre stage in India, be it in terms of vacations, or for business travel.
In India, a travel package, package vacation or holiday consists of transportation and accommodation services, which are advertised and sold together by a service provider, known as a tour operator. Other services included in travel packages in India may include a rental car and activities during the holiday. Transport used may be a charter airline to a foreign country and may also include traveling between different areas. Package holidays work as product bundling.
Travel packages in India are organised by tour operators and are then sold to customers by a travel agent. Travel agents may or may not be the employees of tour operators.
Purpose and Motivation to Travel
The purpose of traveling may include tourism or vacationing, recreation, research travel for gathering information, volunteer traveling for charity, visiting people, migration to live somewhere else permanently, business travel, religious pilgrimages and mission trips, commuting, trade and other reasons, i.e. for the enjoyment of traveling or to obtain health care or waging or fleeing war. Travellers can use vehicles like public transport, automobiles, airplanes, trains and busses or may use human-powered transport for example walking or bicycling.
Therefore, the motives for travel maybe summarized as follows:
- Getting to know other cultures
- Discovery and exploration
- Taking time for developing interpersonal relationships
Indian authorities emphasize on the significance of taking provisions to ensure travel safety. Some safety considerations include being aware of the surroundings, avoiding to be the target of any crime, leaving copies of passport and other itinerary information with trusted people, obtaining medical insurance, which is valid in the country, and being visited and registering with the national embassy when a person arrives in a foreign country.
Travel can be local, regional, national/domestic or international. In many countries, non-local or internal travel may also require an internal passport, where international travel normally requires a passport and visa. A trip can also be part of round-trip, which is specific type of travel where a person moves from one location to another and then returns back.
